History of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Jember (FEB UNEJ)
Mid-May 1962
The Rector of UNITA Jember, together with the administrators of the UNITA Jember Foundation, met with the Head of the Banyuwangi Regional Government to discuss the establishment of the Tawang Alun Faculty of Economics in Banyuwangi. The Regional Government welcomed the plan subject to several conditions.
Mid-1962
With the approval of the Regional Government, the Faculty of Economics of Tawang Alun Private University in Banyuwangi Regency was officially established. The inauguration was attended by the Regent of Banyuwangi, Mr. R. Soegito Natasagito, and members of the Provisional Executive Board (BPH), Mr. R. Djoko Soeroso and Dr. R. Ahmad, as well as Mr. R.Th. Soengedi and Mr. E. Utrecht from UNITA Jember. Mr. E. Utrecht was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Economics, with Soeryopoetro serving as Faculty Secretary. The first lectures were held at the Banyuwangi Regency Hall (Pendopo Kabupaten) with 100 students.
Mid-1963
After it was discovered that the Minister of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) Decree No. 11/1963 dated January 5, 1963, concerning the nationalization of faculties within UNITA did not include the Faculty of Economics in Banyuwangi, the plan announced by the UNITA Jember delegation in mid-May 1962 could not be realized. The Preparatory Committee for the Faculty of Economics in Banyuwangi urged UNITA Jember to immediately complete the nationalization process. The founders of UNITA Jember traveled to Jakarta, while the secretary of the supervisory committee of the UNITA Faculty of Economics in Banyuwangi traveled separately. They met in Jakarta and jointly urged the Minister of PTIP to immediately nationalize the Faculty of Economics of Tawang Alun Private University in Banyuwangi.
November 10, 1964
Based on the Minister of PTIP Decree No. 151/1964 dated November 9, 1964, the Faculty of Economics of Tawang Alun Private University in Banyuwangi was officially nationalized and incorporated into the University of Jember. Prof. Mr. E. Utrecht continued to serve as Dean, while Drs. Soeryopoetro represented the Banyuwangi Regency Government.
December 31, 1965
Prior to the G30S/PKI events, academic activities had not been running smoothly, and the faculty leadership was inactive. Improvements were subsequently undertaken by the regional government and the university. The Faculty of Economics was then supervised by the University of Jember Branch Coordination Council in Banyuwangi. Based on Rector's Decree No. 583/UA/22/65 dated December 31, 1965, signed by Acting Rector Lieutenant Colonel of the Indonesian Army Winoto, the status of the faculty was changed to the Branch Faculty of Economics. A campus facility was provided by the regional government to support the academic programs of the branch faculties of Economics, Law, and Teacher Training.
Late 1974
The Banyuwangi Branch of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Jember was closed at the end of 1974. This left Banyuwangi without a higher education institution for high school graduates. The closure followed a decision by the Minister of Education and Culture ordering the closure of all branch faculties of state universities and institutions, with their programs to be reintegrated into their respective parent institutions.
Late 1975
The campus previously provided by the Banyuwangi Regency Government was temporarily used for education and skills training programs. These activities were later relocated to the Youth Skills Training Center (Pusat Latihan Keterampilan Pemuda/PLKP) in Labanasem, Kabat District, Banyuwangi.
September 1976
The response of the Rector of the University of Jember, Mr. Soetardjo, S.H., to the establishment of a non-degree higher education institution received a positive response from the Regent of Banyuwangi, Colonel Djoko Supaat Slamet. The institution was established pursuant to the Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 042/II/1907 dated March 16, 1975, concerning the establishment and development of education in business administration. The PAAP program was officially implemented through Rector's Decree No. 5617/V3207/1976 dated September 29, 1976.
March 14, 1977
The PAAP program was officially inaugurated on March 14, 1977, at the Banyuwangi Regency Hall (Pendopo Kabupaten Banyuwangi) by Rector Soetardjo, D.H. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Jember, Drs. Hardiyanto Purbangkoro, and the Regent of Banyuwangi, Lieutenant Colonel of the Indonesian Army Djoko Sutana Wijaya, at Jl. Jaksa Agung Suprapto No. 140, Banyuwangi.
February 12, 1986
At the Banyuwangi Regency Hall, Rector Drs. P. Warsito, accompanied by Regent Djoko Wasito, officially closed the Banyuwangi PAAP program in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Education and Culture concerning Business Administration Studies. All PAAP students had completed their studies and subsequently pursued careers throughout Indonesia.
